7 Days in Myanmar
One country. Seven days. Thirty photographers. Over a single week (27 April – 4 May) in 2013, they created a spectacular photographic portrait of one of the world’s most exciting destinations. Through the downtown streets of Yangon and the handicraft centres of Mandalay, above the temple-dotted plains of Bagan and on the waters of Inlay Lake, inside border towns and hilltribe villages and all the way to the furthest reaches of the north and south, the rich culture, stunning landscapes and diverse peoples of the country were captured for a unique visual time capsule.
Hundreds of their outstanding photographs were then selected and presented in 7 Days in Myanmar, a large format book offering a striking showcase of the country at this historic moment in time. Featuring detailed captions, an introduction to Myanmar’s past and present, and a fascinating essay on the advent of photography in nineteenth-century Burma, 7 Days in Myanmar reveals why the world is watching Myanmar and why Myanmar is ready for the world.
Myanmar Deitta hosts an exhibition of more than 50 of the incredible images, to be shown at the Witness Yangon Documentary Arts Space between 14th and 31st December 2013. For full details visit www.witnessyangon.com.
