STATEMENT ARTS AND MYANMAR DEITTA | FEBRUARY 2016
Three free workshops with photographers Ari Espay and Yu Yu Myint Than.
US-based Statement Arts is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing the creative visual & performing arts to underserved and/or low-income individuals. In February 2016, founder Liza Politi came to Yangon with Chilean photographer Ari Espay to work with Myanmar Deitta on a series of free photography workshops.
Over the course of two weeks Ari, assisted by Myanmar Deitta's Yu Yu Myint Than, worked with three different groups of students made up of local youth, journalists and social workers from across the country. For many of them it was their first opportunity to take part in this type of program.
As well as teaching workshops, Liza and Ari brought over more than 25 cameras, assorted lenses, flashguns and tripods to help us create the first equipment lending library in Myanmar. The equipment, donated by well-wishers from across the US, will be available to local photographers, journalists, civil-society groups and workshop organisers as well as support our own educational programs. Details on the first photography library and resource centre in Myanmar coming soon...
